Please use your piston outside

It’s official:  please use your piston outside.  The Tokyo Metro’s own manners campaign currently has distinctively rude connotations!

The Tokyo Metro has been running a series of public manners campaign posters for many months now, all along the theme “Please do it [somewhere else]”.  Last September, I posted the then current poster, which suggested taking off bulky backpacks so that other commuters weren’t hit in the face.

The current poster is timed for the tsuyu, or rainy season, when many people will be jostling for space trying to put away their wet umbrellas in the narrow confines of entrances to subway stations without getting wet – but whilst shaking water over other unwitting commuters.

Other bloggers have also posted on the Metro manners campaign:

  • Inventorspot (with pictures and comments of 8 or 9 posters in the series)
  • <3 yen News on Japan (having a bit of fun with the end-of-year poster about drunken behaviour)
