My friend Dim & I had a good day yesterday up in Tsukuba, a town about an hour north-east of Tokyo. We intended to climb Tsukuba-san, the smallest and easiest to climb of Japan’s “Hyaku-mei-san” (100 famous mountains), but also probably the most famous other than Fuji-san. Tsukuba-san is around 800 metres high, and has… Continue reading Tsukuba-san with Dim
Old Tokyo tram
Even Tokyo takes pride in its old tramways. This is a museum piece marking the site of an old line in Bunkyo-ku, near Ueno.
Hibiya Park Bento
Today’s around 35 degrees, still humid. A great way to spend lunchtime is to buy a bento at the shop behind the office, and head over to Hibiya Park. The cicadas are chirping, a brass band is practising, and I found a tree to sit under in the shade with a breeze.
Kanpeki
The best way to unwind after work, especially after a thunderous humid day.
Meguro natsu matsuri
Stumbled on the Meguro summer festival in Nakameguro on the way home from a friend’s house this evening. Summer in Japan is good fun.
Lemon the rabbit
This is Lemon the rabbit. He/she is from Thailand, and its owner has taken it for a walk to the Yebisu beer garden here in Ebisu. Although you can’t quite see from the photo, it wears a Thai jacket and a leash. It’s here with three of its rabbit friends. Its owners take Lemon for… Continue reading Lemon the rabbit
Du cafe au Citroen
Good coffee is hard to find in Japan. My morning coffee each morning comes from a chain store called Tully’s and isn’t very exciting. Then, it’s canned coffee called Wonda from a vending machine. It’s terrible coffee, but I kinda like it. I just found a little Citroen parked in Nakameguro, its boot open and… Continue reading Du cafe au Citroen
Lazy Saturday afternoon
What better way to study for Monday night’s Japanese class than taking my textbook down to my local cafe (Speed Star near Daikanyama station – there’s a plug) and working through grammar problems over a Hoegaaden?
Towel present
This is a photo of a present I received this week – a towel. Since it’s hot and humid, I’ll be like all the other hot and bothered people in Tokyo and carry it with me to mop my brow.
What’s with the all the plastic packaging??
I went to my local grocery shop on my way home tonight, and patriotically grabbed some Aussie Beef for dinner. Even though the carefully presented small slices of beef were already in a plastic wrapped foam tray, the checkout-chick (I wonder what the Japanese equivalent of that phrase is?) put the tray in another clear… Continue reading What’s with the all the plastic packaging??
