Day 2 of our big road trip took us from Mildura to Adelaide. But not before we’d had an alfresco breakfast at Stefano’s bakery cafe and taken a ride on a paddle steamer on the Mighty Murray.
Transcontinental Road Trip Day #1
Yuki and I picked up our car in Melbourne, and started driving back to Perth. Day 1 took us from Melbourne to Mildura, via Bendigo & Swan Hill.

I’m currently at Johannesburg Airport, connecting to Kenya for the second half of our African trip. We didn’t have good Internet access while on safari in South Africa, and I don’t have much time now, so here are a few quick pictures.
Last minute glimpse of Table Mountain
After 3 days of poor weather, we finally saw the top of Table Mountain yesterday morning, just as we were in the car bound for the airport, and snapped some blurry shots out the window.
Cape of Good Hope
Today was probably the first time in well over a century that anyone in my family has been in the vicinity of the Cape of Good Hope. I presume that my ancestors all successfully rounded the Cape, but that nobody’s been back since.

Day #2 in Cape Town saw some relief from the rain by late morning but still no sight of the top of Table Mountain.
Cape Town endures Melbourne weather
In a fine example of taking coals to Newcastle, it looks like we brought last week’s Melbourne weather with us to Cape Town. It was wintry and wet, with no chance of seeing Table Mountain or the Lion’s Head above the city.
