OK, OK, I know it’s 2009 already. But it’s worth sharing a little of the Christmas cheer that happened here before I went back to Melbourne for Christmas.
Tokyo Christmas lights, to the extent that I got out to see them, are seas of twinkling fairly lights adorning trees in shopping districts. They do an amazingly good job of it for a country that doesn’t really celebrate Christmas. I missed the light-up in Marunouchi, but saw a few streets in Ginza looking extremely festive.
I took a few mobile phone shots of my local shops, Daikanyama Address, on a chilly evening. Even the “Love Girls Market” shop had some lights.
I’ve noticed that the marketing people seem to like making sure that their own shopping mall has its own adjective to put in front of Christmas. “Joyful Christmas”, “Heartful Christmas”, “Wonderful Christmas”, “Magical Christmas”. As if an old fashioned “Merry” isn’t good enough any more.
